When Mr. Ratburn tells his class to write a story, Arthur starts right away. He is pleased with his effort, "How I Got My Puppy Pal," but everyone he talks to seems to have better ideas for their own stories -- theirs are funny, in song, or set in outer space! So Arthur keeps going back to rewrite his story, and the result -- a song-and-dance number about a boy and his pet elephant on Planet Shmellafint -- leaves his class speechless. Luckily, Mr. Ratburn brings Arthur back down to earth and elicits the original, and best, story.
Teachers will find this an entertaining cautionary tale to read aloud to young writers, and, of course, Arthur fans will devour it.
