Thanks, all - and yes, I'll be resizing the images. I will need to know
what the width of the images should be. And, will that width be
different when they are on the right side (on the Home Page) and when
they appear on the left (Secondary Pages)?

Hi Steve,
Thanks for writing these up. The only thing that I have in my notes
that is not here (and I might have just missed it) is that Edie/NBP will
be sending over smaller images of the "Donate Now" and "Sign up for our
E-Newsletter" buttons for the secondary pages.
I've saved a soft and hard copy of these notes so that we've got them on
file.

Please read and submit necessary changes to the group. These are only
notes and this information is not being stored anywhere other than in
this email string.
Home Page
1. Problem: Keystrokes and mouse clicks can confuse the browser.
Solution: Change the functionality so that (1) the down arrow is
required to open a dropdown. And (2) the focus will not open the
dropdown.
2. Question: For the video page that is launched from the homepage, what
default player should be used? Flash? Qucktime?
Action Item: Additional research was offered by Richard to test a few
players using a .swf file and report back to NBP with the results.
3. Discussion: The homepage content and the large white space between
the bottom of the rotating image and the top of the content was reviewed
again. There is an end </div> tag after the rotating image and a
beginning <div> tag for the content. It appears that the browser is
doing line breaks in the form of borders.
Solution: These divs will require some additional style work such as not
to use the bottom border for the div closing the rotating image and not
to use the top border for the div that starts the content area.
3a. Discussion: There was talk of taking the Our Mission content, NBP's
Mission Statement, and having it span horizontally across the page
rather than it being in the first column under the Video Highlights.
Action Item: Edie will mock up a page and distribute it to the teams for
review.
4. Discussion: The menu links the template MENU_BAR need to be updated.
The document named WebReskin_working.doc is where the current
information resides. This document may also need updates. The Excel
Workbook Content_Ready.xls is outdated.
Action Item: Richard will review the document and update the menu /
navigation links
Action Item: When Edie updates this document she will move it to
/productionfiles on the server and then notify the teams.
Note: In the current WebReskin_working.doc the (5) Secondary Navigations
called Section 1 are: BRAILLE BOOKSTORE, ACCESSIBLE BUSINESS SERVICES,
CUSTOM EDUCATION SERVICES, PROGRAMS, GET INVOLVED.
5. Discussion: The horizontal Scroll bar is still appearing. The
requirement in the specification is that content and images appear in a
browser without the horizontal scroll bar appearing on the browser. The
goal will be to have 1024 pixels displayed horizontally without the
horizontal scroll bar being displayed.
Solution: Some work has been done on this. Different browsers render
content differently. The images need to be made smaller. Some trial and
error work will need to be done to see about taking the margin from the
left side and using it in the content area.
6. Discussion: Homepage column size. This is tied to #5. The column and
image sizes where discussed. The styles for the (4) columns will be
modified using Absolute pixel sizing.
Research: What's is the total max for the page width? 950, 980, 1000?
This will be another trial and error.
Completed Research by Steve on 04/19/2010: After some CSS Absolute
Position testing it appears that IE 6 will display 993 pixels
horizontally without creating a horizontal scroll bar. This is when
using text size medium and a screen resolution of 1024x768. Opera 10.5
will display 1014 pixels without creating a horizontal scroll bar.
7. Discussion: Hidden text on the left of the screen, using a negative
positioning, for the screen reader.
Action Item: Edie will look into the wording that will help the User.
8. Action Item: Richard will change the Short Cuts of "Alt + Key" to be
"Focus" and not "Open" which is what it is doing now.
9. Action Item: The hompage will require 2 "Jump Links" for the screen
reader. (1) to go to the Mission and (2) to go to the Content. These are
done using a #bookmark jump.
Secondary Page
1. Action Item: Remove the bullets. This was only a test.
2. Discussion and changes: The left navigation is different form each of
the (5) Secondary page sections: BRAILLE BOOKSTORE, ACCESSIBLE BUSINESS
SERVICES, CUSTOM EDUCATION SERVICES, PROGRAMS, GET INVOLVED.
Discussion: In Secondary page that was reviewed there is one single
column of content. NBP hopes to have as much text from left to right in
the column as possible.
Discussion: Move the images on the right to be under the navigation on
the left.
Discussion: On the right, drop the Alpha Card, Facebook, and Twitter
image and link.
Action Item: Move the Make a Donation and Braille Innovation images and
links to the left and under the vertical navigation.
Action Item: Add the Sign-up for Our E-Newsletter functionality to be on
the left under the vertical navigation.
Note: I do not have enough information in my notes to determine the
order of the left side of the page. Is it Navigation, images and links,
and then Sign-up for Our E-Newsletter? Or is it Navigation, Sign-up for
Our E-Newsletter and then images and links?
