[NBP web-reskin] FW: Revised Prototype...

I checked out a few blind organization websites and none of them are
using drop down menus:
http://www.rnib.org
http://www.afb.org
http://www.aadb.org
So I'm not sure if we maybe want to rethink the drop down menu. One
option is when the user clicks on the main link a second level menu is
populated.
I'll keep looking around for anything I can find on how to make a drop
down menu accessible though.

Thanks for the feedback. I did try using a free screen reader plug-in
for Firefox and it let me access the menu okay but it didn't identify it
as one or that I was even on a link.
The menu code is actually nothing special just basic JavaScript moving a
DIV around. I'll also try doing some research to see what I can find
out about menus and accessibility.

Hi Edie,
The menu is the item called Braille bookstore, right? I've gotten very
odd results with it. Window-Eyes 7.01, which I'm pretty sure is the
latest version, didn't see it at all. JAWS 11 identified it as a menu
the first time I visited the page. When I focused on it and pressed
Enter, I could tab to items called Menu Item 1, Menu Item 2, etc.
However, I couldn't seem to get out of the menu and read the rest of
the page. I ended up closing Internet Explorer and reloading the page.
This time, JAWS identified the item as a bulleted list item, so I
wouldn't have known it was a menu. When I pressed Enter, I was able to
tab to menu items and didn't get stuck. The difference could be partly
in the fact that this is a beta of JAWS. With JAWS 10, I couldn't
access that much. But clearly this is cutting-edge technology, and I'm
not sure how many people will be able to take advantage of it. If you
like, I'll try to find someone more knowledgeable about Web 2.0
accessibility that you and the developer can talk to, so you get more
technical info. I can tell you what I'm experiencing, but I don't know
enough about all of this to make constructive suggestions for making
it work better.
Best,
Anna
