Hi, all.

Rather than going into great detail at this time about the development
environment and production environment concerns, I'll just note:
* we use a home-grown (but open-sourced) project called "DevCamps" (or
just "camps") for handling development environment management
* a reasonably short overview of the basic approach can be found at:
http://www.spreecamps.com/camps
(SpreeCamps is a hosted service we provide that uses the same camp
system as part of an integrated development/production VPS hosting
solution for the Rails-based Spree ecommerce platform)
* the development instances all run on the same server as the production
instance.

This server is a few years old and a little underpowered for running
lots of camps. But if we keep the number of development instances to
some reasonable level, it'll scale fine. Given the small team involved,
I don't foresee a problem with this.

Probably more important than camps is Git. If you aren't used to
version control much, then you'll probably find Git to be sheer
pleasure. If you're used to centralized version control like CVS,
Subversion, or even Visual SourceSafe, you may find Git liberating or
utterly confusing. But it's taking the world by storm, with very good
reason.

Thanks. Happy fourth to you all.
