I think I'll do a slightly better version of the chemistry document,
i.e. with the diagrams coming out better, this weekend, and resend it on
Monday.

I have attached some text for the chemistry section, as Janet requested.
I have been messing around with this on and off, not getting very far,
and being side-tracked trying to decide on what format to use, e.g. with
the included diagrams and other notation. I know Janet has been using MS
Word (which I don't normally use myself), so I have just converted it:
this wasn't a Word file until an hour ago. I think it is readable, but
may not be the best Word file! Ideally this should be more portable,
e.g. some sort of HTML or XML file (as should all the documentation for
UEB).

I'm afraid I have also neglected this task a bit, and have not pursued
it as far as I might as regards trawling for further examples. But
anyway, this is where it is at the moment.

I have taken the line that the structural diagrams are understood to be
in grade 1, to avoid the clutter of letter signs messing up alignments
and taking more space. Maybe I should really have explicitly shown the
grade 1 passage indicators. Also, I have generally switched on capital
passage mode around these for the same reason, but this time explicitly
showing the indicators. I am not sure what the current view is about
having such indicators on a separate line. As you will see I have just
inserted them without any extra indicator.

If Janet would like to redirect me in this task, please feel free.

Stephen

Subject: [UEB Maths] Maths jobs before General Assembly

We made a lot of progress at the face to face meeting last March, and
now we need to have another burst to get the revised document
(Guidelines for Technical Material), finished and brailled in time for
the General Assembly. I have been working this week on the amendments
listed in our minutes which affect about 6 of the 15 chapters. I will
send these through a few at a time for the group to check. I know
Stephen has been working on the Chemistry chapter, so perhaps he can
send us what he has so far. The computer language examples that Joe is
working on may have been held up by the discussions on the overarching
committee so he can advise us on how soon he will have anything to
share. I'm hoping Helen will have time to check my amendments for
typos, particularly in the braille examples. The amendments were based
on feedback brought to the meeting by Phyllis and Josie. I'm assuming
that Pyhllis is still out of email contact, but Bruce and Josie could
perhaps get together to check that the amendments address the feedback.

If committee members could let me know if this sounds fair and doable
that would be great. We may need to have a teleconference once all the
material is together and everyone has read it.

Janet
