[UEB Maths] accommodation and timetable for the March meeting

Hi Janet,

I would very much have liked to attend the meeting as I have all of the
other working committee meetings. But, being realistic, I wouldn't have
much to offer on maths and chemistry. I have asked Phyllis Landon,
chair of the rules working group, of which the math group is a
subcommittee, to attend. She is willing (delighted) to do so - and of
course, at no expense to ICEB. She and Helen would share a room, but
probably not a bed. So if the Parnell Inn would work for that - ok.
Otherwise the hotel would be better.

Happy holidays to all and best wishes for the new year.

Subject: [UEB Maths] accommodation and timetable for the March meeting

The March meeting is now confirmed and I am about to reserve some
accommodation. We are provisionally looking at three and a half days for
the Maths, starting around 1:30 pm on Tuesday 6 March and finishing at 5
pm on Friday 9 March. As this is a small group we have booked a meeting
room at the Royal NZ Foundation of the Blind at 4 Maunsell Road in
Parnell and will be providing lunch on all four days. There are two
accommodation options.

The Parnell Inn (www.parnellinn.co.nz) is a small but well placed motel,
within easy walking distance of the RNZFB. It has its own cafe which
does excellent breakfasts and lunches but there are no restaurant or bar
facilities in the evening. However it is in the centre of the Parnell
cafe and restaurant area. This is a favourite for RNZFB staff but we
would need to book soon as they only have 5 executive rooms, the
standard ones are a bit small. RNZFB has a discount rate of NZ$95 a
night for the executive room with one queen size bed. Internet access is
dialup only.

Alternatively if people would prefer something further away but with
more facilities we would recommend the Copthorne Hotel on Anzac Avenue
(www.nz-holiday.co.nz/copthorne/anzacavenue.asp). This has its own
restaurant, 24 hour room service and broadband internet access. However
they do not have meeting room facilities available so we would still
ferry people up to RNZFB. I have checked today and the RNZFB discount
rate is NZ$125 for a room with two double beds.

I will provisionally reserve the 5 best rooms at the Parnell Inn in case
this is the way folks want to go. The broadband might be a factor
though, would this be an issue for you Joe? I am not sure yet whether
you would be able to go in through our wireless connection here at
RNZFB.
Janet
