Hello Janet and everyone,
Sorry to have been "out of the loop" as you were discussing this earlier.
Fortunately, I'm only scheduled for one short trip, April 13-15, for the
next two months. Nirvana -- I might actually get some work done. In any
case, I should be able to meet at any time during May, and 4 PM Boston time
is quite kind, especially since, as I recall, Maria Stevens drew an ungodly
hour for our Committee 2 teleconference and I would have expected fair
turnabout!
Speaking of the Committee 2 teleconference, I had since heard that it was
unexpectedly expensive but this is the first I realized that it was THAT
out of range. Of course that's still a lot less than travel, but I wonder
if we might want to try Skype (see http://www.skype.com if not familiar
with Skype). I've found that Skype works quite well no matter what the
distance for ordinary two-person calls, and anyway it's hard to beat the
price (free) even if there's an occasional hiccup. I haven't tried it for a
teleconference, though, and have heard that it's not too good when you get
beyond a very few participants. Still, I have to wonder if it's not worth a
try -- or perhaps there would be a way to patch in a few people who are
calling from Skype into the regular phone network, just to cut down
expenses. If anyone wants to experiment, I'm glad to try. My "Skype name"
is joesullivan, and although I'm not usually online, I can be at any
prearranged time.
Best,
Joe
