The Vision 5K Run and Walk

2009 Vision 5K A Great Success!
Over 1,000 runners and walkers, and a stellar field of blind and visually impaired athletes joined together on June 7, 2009 at beautiful Boston College for one of the most successful Vision 5K events ever. Read interviews with the top finishers here.

What is the Vision 5k?
The Vision 5k is unique run and walk where blind and sighted participants run or walk side by side. Join sighted and blind athletes, world-class runners and weekend walkers, and a remarkable partnership of four organizations that serve the blind and visually impaired.

Who can participate in the Vision 5k?
Everyone! We welcome blind, sighted, and visually impaired runners and walkers to join National Braille Press in support of the Vision 5k. All blind and visually impaired athletes are invited to compete in the 2009 Vision 5K for the US Association of Blind Athletes (USABA) National Championship.

How can I participate in the Vision 5k?
There are several ways to get involved with the Vision 5k. As a runner or walker, you can form a team and recruit your friends, family, or co-workers to join the race with you. Want more of a challenge? Experience the Blindfold Challenge.

During the Blindfold Challenge you run the entire course without the benefit of your sight and with a sighted guide who assists you every step of the way. We provide training sessions (check out the YouTube link at the bottom of this page for a preview) to help you learn tips on how to have a safe and successful race. You'll find that anything is possible and that the only obstacle is fear. Participation in the Blindfold Challenge has been rewarding and memorable bonding experience for everyone who has run or guided in the past, whether a team of a parent and a child, siblings, friends, or even strangers.

The Vision 5k also needs volunteers to make the race a success. If you cannot participate in the race as a runner or walker, consider volunteering.

How can my company get involved in the Vision 5k?
Sponsorships are available at several levels. For more information on sponsorship and in-kind giving opportunities, please contact Kimberley Ballard at kballard@nbp.org or (617) 266-6160 ext. 437.

How does the Vision 5k support National Braille Press?
National Braille Press is one of the four blindness organizations that partners together to make the Vision 5k happen. All funds raised for the Vision 5k go directly toward the organizations involved in creating the Vision 5k. When registering, you are able to direct your donation toward just National Braille Press or, if you choose, you may spread your donation evenly among the other organizations.
