Staff Accountant


FULL TIME (non-exempt)

The ideal candidate will have the skill sets and experience to handle a wide range of administrative, assigned projects and support related tasks, with little supervision. This person must be well organized, flexible and enjoy the administrative challenges of working with an organization of diverse people and programs. The Administrative Assistant has the ability to interact with staff (at all levels) in a fun, but sometimes fast paced environment, remaining flexible under pressure, proactive, resourceful and efficient. A high level of professionalism and confidentiality is important in this role. Strong written and verbal communication skills, and attention to detail are equally important.

Production/Finishing Support is involved in multiple aspects of production at National Braille Press. Working closely with the teams on the Production floor, this individual is responsible for the maintenance, improvement, and expansion of braille as it relates to the mission of National Braille Press.

Major Areas of Responsibility include but are not limited to:

  • Prepare and enter accounts receivable billing information into accounting system, prepare bills to mail to customer, process payments from customers and other cash receipts. Prepare and mail out monthly statements to customers.
  • Perform collections on past due balance (over 45 days).
  • Research and resolve all customers' questions.
  • Enter accounts payable invoices into accounting software, process payment for vendors weekly and on an as-needed basis.
  • Research and resolve all vendors' questions.
  • Prepare bi-weekly payroll. Post payroll to the General Ledger.
  • Prepare bi-weekly 403(b) submission and payment on a timely basis.
  • Prepare and post general journal entries for month end close.
  • Maintain employees' files in payroll system and personnel files.
  • Maintain adequate and complete filing system for all accounting records.
  • Assist the Controller with special accounting projects as needed.
  • Minimum Job Requirements

  • 1-2 years of work experience in bookkeeping, accounting or finance.
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven adeptness at detail work
  • Strong Analytical and MS Office/computer skills.

  • Education: Bachelor's degree preferred.
