INDIVIDUAL BRAILLE TRANSCRIPTION SERVICES 2009 National Braille Press 88 St. Stephen Street Boston, MA 02115 800-548-7323 www.nbp.org About Our Company National Braille Press handles every type of braille and large-print job for organizations across the country. Our highly-automated, desktop division makes it feasible for us to produce a few copies of a document—a service which has grown with the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). However, there is often a need for one copy of a document for an individual who wants a particular book or computer manual transcribed at an economical price. As a public service to address this need, NBP has compiled this listing of Individual Braille Transcription Services, or IBTS for short. This information was collected in January of 2009 and is subject to change as time goes by. We make no recommendations regarding these braille services, although we assume they offer respectable braille transcription. We suggest that you contact an agency before sending your materials to be transcribed. Colby Springfield, MO 65802 Tel. 417-832-0281 Fax 417-832-9730 E-mail: mjwaters@surfree.com WEB www.EasyToReadDocuments.com I am a certified literary braille transcriber. I do not do Nemeth, music or textbook Braille. I can accept scannable print or IBM compatible computer disk (3.5 inch). If the formatting isn't critical, either ASCII or any format up to and including WordPerfect 12 and MS Word is acceptable. I prefer not to accept material via attachment. I've been infected with far too many viruses to take chances like that. I produce either grade 1 or 2 either single-sided or interpoint braille. Unless specifically requested to do otherwise, I use 8 1/2 x 11 paper (cut sheet). I bind in plastic covers with comb spines. Please note that I take great pride in the braille I produce. I have several gray hairs that are the result of the quick braille features of some of the translation programs. I proof every page of braille before it goes out. It doesn't take any longer to do it right the first time and not have to do it over. The translation program I use is MegaDots lavishly manhandled by me. Because of the variation in quality of print materials, I charge by the hour at $17.50 per with a one hour minimum. The turn-around time will depend on the size of the job. A 2 page brochure would be something under a week. A set of CCR's (Covenants, Conditions and Restrictions) for a condominium unit could take up to 6 weeks to 2 months, depending on the rest of my work load. Naturally, previous contracts take precedence (first in, first out).* ________________________________________________________________________ MICHIGAN BRAILLE TRANSCRIBING FUND ATTN: Francelia Wonders, Director 3500 N.
